Chico, CA - Music for Music (Your Annual Eclectic Festival)
Festival: Music for Music (Your Annual Eclectic Festival)
With financial stress and political burden suppressing the arts education and culture in the small town of Chico, the artistically driven community peacefully fights back with whatever means necessary; new after-school music programs, art shows, The World Music Festival, and the Thursday night market, to name a few, are all ways we attempt to express our artistic culture within Chico, but is this good enough?
Two former students of CSU, Chico, Marty McLean and Cameron Scott, sought out this issue with a resolution that could raise money for local music programs through an annual benefit music festival hosted by performances of the majority of local chico bands/ artists, Music for Music (Your Annual Eclectic Festival), will resonate throughout Chico for decades to come. Jump on the "band-wagon" and help us cultivate your community and our nation's musical and artistic future by sponsoring, volunteering, or attending this music festival, for which after production costs, all profit goes to the yearly chosen local music foundation. This year, in 2013, we will be donating to a deserving non-profit organization that is undeclared at this time.

Location: "The Junction" Chico, CA
9th and Broadway quickly became the central part of town, hence "The Junction", because the route sat right at the cornerstone of both directions, being Oroville and Orland. Especially when they put in the town brewery in the basement and the brothel upstairs did the place turn into a very popular and entertaining area. "The Junction proper[ly] remained a hub for travelers, with stables and carriage houses, blacksmith shops, hotels, saloons, and the new Chico Brewery, at Eighth and Broadway. The Chico Brewery, out at the Junction, advertised kegs of Lager Beer for only $1.75, but also had a Saloon room on the premises. The bar at the nearby Junction Hotel, meanwhile, 'is stocked with the best brands of liquors and cigars.' It's not too much to say that drinking was an industry, perhaps ' the industry' in Chico. " [Tim Bousquet]
This area, formally coined as "The Junction", has been burnt down, renovated, changed, gone through many different ownerships, and now is being reintroduced as "The Junction" to show Chico that we can reunite the community, once again, with a common purpose. This time, however, the purpose of "The Junction" is to help sustain Chico's artistic community and showcasing our amazing local talents. |

Beneficiary of 2012: Music, Movement, and More with Judy Johnson
Music, Movement, and More aims to provide both musical and physical education for every student, kindergarten through twelfth grade, in the Chico Unified School District. Research shows that music is the one curriculum which stimulates both hemispheres of the brain, therefore, increasing academic learning and improving test scores. In addition, there is a direct correlation between physical and mental health. It is with these ideas in mind that Music, Movement, and More works to provide students with a quality musical and physical education. This program helps to improve student's academic achievement, motor skills, critically thinking, problem solving, and physical health while also promoting social and cultural growth. In order to continue providing this nurturing environment for Chico's young talent, we need to raise money to build and develop our musical and physical education programs.
The Chico community has continued to support our district music program throughout the generations, however, due to annual state and district budget cuts over the last 20 years, the music department is now non-existent. Despite community and parental support, for the first time in 20 years the pressure from the state for "achievement standards and student proficiencies" has allowed the junior high and high schools to cut their music programs.
Today, we have instruments that are 20-30 years old, failing rapidly, and in desperate need of replacement or repair. We have aging music libraries and need uniforms at the junior high and high school levels. We continue to exist on minimal financial support and have labored to hold on to the dwindling music program we currently provide through creativity, fund raising, and donations. Please help give this fading program new life. Thank you, Chico community, for your support.
